This qualification reflects accounting job roles in financial services and other industries requiring accounting support functions such as completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office taxes, operational reporting, producing non-complex management reports, compiling data for job costing reports, supervising the operation of computer-based financial systems, classifying, recording and reporting accounting information, managing a small office and ensuring relevant legal requirements are adhered to.

ENTRY REQUIRMENTS

Academic (preferred): • Certificate III in Accounting or Other relevant qualification • Completed Year 11 or overseas equivalent

English: • Minimum score 5.5 or equivalent • English proficiency or intermediate level • Above from any NEAS accredited ELICOS

MODULES

Module 1 - Accounting Analysis and Reporting

Students will learn to maintain an asset register, record general journal entries for balance day adjustments, prepare final general ledger accounts and end of period financial reports.  Students will also organise and present financial data including budget variances, budgets and forecasts, cash flow/profit reports, balance sheets, financial year reports, operating statements, expenditure and receipts and profit and loss statements.

Module 2 – MYOB and Bookkeeping

Students will learn the skills and knowledge required to operate an integrated computerised accounting system (MYOB). Student’s will set up an organisation’s chart of accounts, process transactions within the integrated system and generate reports and print. Students will also be required to reconcile and monitor financial accounts receivable systems, identify bad and doubtful debts and plan a recovery action.

Module 3 - MYOB and Payroll

Students will learn the skills and knowledge required to record and prepare payroll documentation, respond to enquiries and process accurate payroll data on the MYOB platform. Students will establish payroll requirements, record payroll data, prepare and process payroll, handle payroll enquiries while maintaining the payroll system.

Module 4 – Managerial Accounting

Students will learn the skills and knowledge required to prepare and process routine financial documents, prepare journal entries, post journals to ledgers, prepare banking and reconcile financial receipts, and extract a trial balance and interim reports. Students will also be required to prepare budgets, confirm budget objectives, identify and include milestones and performance indicators in budget and distribute reports within timelines for specified periods and projects.

Module 4 – BAS and Compliance

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify and apply compliance requirements to effectively process and complete business activity statements (BAS), instalment activity statements (IAS) and other required reports. Students will also deal with the compliance, legal and professional aspects of the accounting industry.
